The Princess of Wales's Annual Festive Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like award-winning actors.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the former royal to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
